Summer Packet (Improvements)

by Karen on May 17, 2010

The Pre-K Summer Packet is something I send home at the end of the year for my parents and students to work on during the summer, if they choose. Many parents aren’t sure what to do with young children to promote learning in the summer, and tend to resort to worksheets and flashcards. Hopefully this packet provides them with fun, hands-on learning activities.

If you’ve already seen the Summer Packet on my site, you might want to check out these two new additions I’ve added this year.

Summer Book Bingo

This is a printable chart to encourage parents to read to their children during the summer. It will hopefully also encourage them to read some quality children’s literature. I borrowed this idea from Playful Learning and adapted it for Pre-K.

Ocean Animal Race

This is a dice game that encourages children to practice numeral identification and counting skills. Directions are on the printable page for parents. I saw these dice race games circulating on several other blogs a few months ago, and thought they were a neat way to practice math skills.

Great ideas- thanks!! I’m going to modify the dice game for my 4 year old by having him trace the numbers instead of just circling them.

WOW! What a great thing to do for the children and the parents. I hope they appreciate the amount of work you put in!
Have a great summer, and thanks again for all the inspiration, printables and more that you share.
I think your site is, without a doubt, the best preschoolsite there is!

I saw on another site or facebook what do you give a Preschooler when they are graduating from their preschool and going to big school? I like your idea of the summer activity bag. Most important I think if parents can read at least one book a night to their child and then talk about the book it is a wonderful life long routine. A love for books! That is why I feature great childrens books on my post every week.

What a briliant pack. If I was a parent receiving this I would be thrilled and so thankful to have such a caring, kind and creative teacher for my child.

Thank you so much for this service…the summer packet is awesome. I actually will use this along with my parents this summer. My parents are so happy to receive this packet and are happy with the activities rather than worksheets and dittos.

I love your link to the preschool lap packs. i found this site thru yours however i can’t seem to find it again. please help!!! the packs remind me of file folders and were available in several different choices to print off for free. “Brown Bear Brown Bear” and “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” were a few of the choices. the lap packs or whatever they were called had an awesome lay out and great educational information for preschoolers to learn by using favorite book choices– i’ve never seen anything like this!! can you please e-mail me the site so that i can continue using it as a resource in my Preschool!! THANKS– Ms. Jenifer @ Play-Away Preschool in Huntsville, Arkansas
