About Me

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Valdosta State University. I have taught in the Georgia lottery funded Pre-K program, and currently teach Pre-K in a private school in Georgia. I have been teaching Pre-K for 11 years.
I am a member of the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children).
While in college, I participated in the VSU Early Childhood Study Abroad Program in Great Britain, partnered with St. Andrew’s College in Glasgow, Scotland. I have been trained in High/Scope, Math Their Way, and InTech.
Some of my work was published and referenced in a book called The Portfolio Connection, by Susan Belgrad. I currently write curriculum for Itty Bitty Bookworm, a literature-based preschool curriculum.
My interests outside of teaching are photography, reading, music, computers, and history. My photography can be found on Flickr.
Who am I as a teacher?
My Pre-K background is in High/Scope. I attended the training and taught High/Scope my first two years in Pre-K. I still continue to do a lot of things the High/Scope “way”, although not entirely. I have read about and studied Reggio Emilia, emergent curriculum, Project Approach, and Montessori, and I include some aspects of those philosophies in the way I teach. I believe in play-based learning for preschoolers. I do not believe in using color sheets or worksheets.
