Field Trip Checklists
Children bring these along on a nature walk or field trip, and check off each item they find. Clip the page to a clipboard for each child.
Magnets
Children use a magnet wand to test a variety of objects to see if they are magnetic or non-magnetic. They classify the objects onto the spaces on the mat.
Giant Color Dice
To make the dice: Cover a small square cardboard box with wrapping paper or bulletin board paper. I use a small Priority Mail Box. Print out the dice printables, cut them out, and glue them onto the sides of the box.
To play: Children take turns rolling the die. When the die stops rolling, the child will look at the color on top, and find something in the room that is the same color.
Leaf Matching
Print out two copies of the leaf matching cards, cut them out, and laminate. Children use visual discrimination skills to match the leaves that are the same. Since these are photographs of real leaves and children are using observational skills to notice differences in nature, I added these cards to our science center.
Tree Life Cycle
These cards can be used to show children the life cycle of an oak tree: from acorn, to seedling, to young oak tree, to full grown oak tree. These can also be added to the science center, along with the self-checking card, for children to put in order.
